Teamwork sees Fargo Systems & G&W scoop finalist slot in 2020 Supply Chain Excellence Awards.

Embracing a collaborative approach has landed Fargo Systems and Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W) a finalist nomination in this year’s Supply Chain Excellence Awards.

The two companies have been nominated as finalists in the award’s supply chain innovation category for a project undertaken in 2019. The million-pound plus project involved Fargo Systems signing two contracts with G&W’s UK companies. The first a fixed-term roll-out of its TOPS telematics software, followed by a three-phase database implementation programme.

Following the acquisition by G&W of three of Fargo’s longstanding clients, Freightliner Road Services, Pentalver Transport Ltd and Pentalver (Cannock) Ltd, the Ipswich and Exeter-based company was commissioned by G&W to help achieve its long term strategic aim of taking the trio of businesses into the future as a single service solution for the UK.

Fargo Systems’ director, Steve Collins, explains: “The project was all about providing a stable, resilient and robust ‘private CLOUD’ platform with 24/7 access, which can be scaled up as required. Its successful completion puts G&W in the strong and enviable position of being able to react quickly and efficiently to industry demands here in the UK.”

Shaun Allen, MD Rail for G&W’s UK/Europe Region companies says: “With great relationships already existing between Fargo Systems, Freightliner and the two Pentalver operations we knew we were in good hands. Flexibility and collaboration have been at the forefront of this working partnership. Whether committing time to join weekly meetings or being involved in daily calls at certain times, Fargo Systems was 100% when it came to responding promptly and efficiently to our queries. The amalgamated database and the managed CLOUD mean we now have a dedicated and secure environment that is easy for the business to access, is scalable, and all our data is
stored in a safe environment.”

By bringing the three businesses together as a single service solution, the completed project
instantly yielded improved reporting and cost savings. Going live on 1st January 2020 additional
benefits achieved include: greater opportunities to grow and scale the business, the ability to
process more data electronically and reduce manual input, complete visibility on transport from GPS
to PODs, and the ability for G&W UK’s Road platform to better plan resources and reduce empty
miles.

In its 24th year, the Supply Chain Awards will be hosted on 12th November 2020.
