Freightliner welcomes Dr Kieran Mullan, MP for Crewe and Nantwich to their Crewe VMF

Following on from our recent loco naming of 90014 ‘Over the Rainbow’ in recognition of key workers, we were delighted to welcome Dr Kieran Mullan, MP for Crewe and Nantwich to our Vehicle Maintenance Facility in Crewe.

Dr Mullan commented:

“Freightliner staff were one of many key workers in the transport sector who worked hard to keep the country running at the height of lockdown. So it was great to meet and thank them in person.

“Their decision to name their new train after key workers is a really fantastic tribute and reflects how grateful our whole community is for people from all sorts of walks of life that stepped up and made a difference.”

Freightliner’s Electric Loco Fleet Manager, Andy Jeffrey gave Dr Mullan a tour of the facility, whilst Dr Mullan and our Rail  Strategy Manager, Peter Graham discussed the benefits of HS2 and how this could free up capacity for rail freight in the future. This, together with our expanded fleet of electric Class 90 locos, will support the government’s commitment to tackling climate change and meeting vital decarbonisation targets.

“It was great to have our MP spend time talking to us, genuinely interested in what we do as a local employer,” said Peter Graham. “We were also proud to have the chance to show him our tribute to key workers. We are proud to be a part of Crewe and its community.”
