The Learning and Development team focus on creating and evaluating training programmes which support, develop and accelerate learning in order to build an agile and responsive organisation. This enables us to offer opportunities for individual and team growth to our people, as they acquire skills which positively impact both their personal and professional lives.
G&W Training Academy
Our purpose-built training facility in Cannock offers the capacity for both internal and external trainees, covering a wide range of driver, safety and first aid courses. All courses can be tailored and developed to suit the individual requirements of the intended recipient(s) and are delivered by, professional, highly competent, IAM RoadSmart approved trainers.
The European Social Fund (ESF)
ESF invests in people, with a focus on improving employment and education opportunities across the European Union.
The majority of ESF funds are distributed through public agencies such as the Education and Skills Funding Agency, Department for Work and Pensions and National Offender Management Service (NOMS). These agencies are known as ‘Co-financing Organisations’. Their role is to bring together ESF and domestic funding for employment and skills so that ESF complements domestic programmes. The Co-financing Organisations contract with the organisations or ‘providers’ that deliver ESF projects in local areas and as such contribute to the funding of apprenticeship programmes that Genesee & Wyoming use for new staff and up-skilling existing staff.
